What is Oracle Change Data Capture and its Benefits

In the past, businesses have introduced advanced technologies in their database management systems. However, it was soon realized that getting insights into real-time data was not easy. Replacing existing databases was more than they could handle even though the data and transactions were critical for data analytics.

Over the last couple of decades, it was seen that both the velocity of data and the volumes were increasing dramatically and exponentially. It became essential to opt for cloud-based solutions and Change Data Capture (CDC) from databases like Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server. It was seen that Oracle CDC was one specific point where the effect of modern data integration use cases was the largest. Soon, an increasing number of organizations chose to move to event-driven architectures to maximize the dynamic distributed capabilities of databases, particularly Oracle CDC.

One of the main benefits of Oracle CDC is that events that are created can be extracted in real-time. These events are later delivered to Azure Cloud after being enriched with in-memory SQL- based denormalization. This ensures low-cost analytics in real-time without affecting the source database.

Organizations require data warehousing solutions that extract and transport relational data from one or multiple source databases into a repository for later analysis. The work of Oracle CDC is to quickly identify and capture the data that has changed for later use. Hence, there is no need to process entire tables or undertake full refreshes whenever any change is made in the source database. Without CDC, enterprises would have to follow the tedious process of moving the contents of entire tables into flat files and then load them into the data warehouse.

This is the benefit of Oracle CDC.
